Antoinette Cook @ The News Center:  Michael Jackson  4th Anniversary of his death

It's been four years since Michael Jackson died, on June 25, 2009, from cardiac arrest caused by a lethal combination of prescription drugs. His death, later ruled a homicide, shocked fans and musicians across the world.
Jackson rose to fame in 1964 as the youngest member of his family's Motown group, the "Jackson 5," and continued to dominate the music industry with best-selling hits such as "Thriller," "Billie Jean" and "Beat It."
Jackson is survived by his three children, Prince Michael Jackson II, Michael Joseph Jackson Jr. and Paris-Michael Katherine Jackson.

Michael Jackson biggest fans definitely did not, leaving massive piles of flowers outside the King of Pop's mausoleum today. To give you an idea, one MJ fan group -- called "One Rose for Michael Jackson" -- donated more than 10,000 roses to the grave site. A rep for Forest Lawn cemetery tells the  fans that they will continue to be allowed to place flowers at MJ's grave throughout the day ... and the flowers will remain on site for the rest of the week. His present is definitely missed. Please leave your comments or email Antoinette Cook @ lovinwhatido2@aol.com.

Food Network won't renew Paula Deen's contract

Food Network won't renew Paula Deen's contract

AP Photo
FILE - This Jan. 17, 2012 file photo shows celebrity chef Paula Deen posing for a portrait in New York. It was revealed that Deen admitted during questioning in a lawsuit that she had slurred blacks in the past. It's the second time the queen of comfort food's mouth has gotten her into big trouble. She revealed in 2012 that for three years she hid her Type 2 diabetes while continuing to cook the calorie-laden food that's bad for people like her.

SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) -- The Food Network said Friday it's dumping Paula Deen, barely an hour after the celebrity cook posted the first of two videotaped apologies online begging forgiveness from fans and critics troubled by her admission to having used racial slurs in the past.

The 66-year-old Savannah kitchen celebrity has been swamped in controversy since court documents filed this week revealed Deen told an attorney questioning her under oath last month that she has used the N-word. "Yes, of course," Deen said, though she added, "It's been a very long time."

The Food Network, which made Deen a star with "Paula's Home Cooking" in 2002 and later "Paula's Home Cooking" in 2008, weighed in with a terse statement Friday afternoon.

"Food Network will not renew Paula Deen's contract when it expires at the end of this month," the statement said. Network representatives declined further comment. A representative for Deen did not immediately return phone and email messages seeking comment on the decision.

The news came as Deen worked to repair the damage to her image, which has spawned a vast empire of cookbooks, a bimonthly cooking magazine, a full line of cookware, food items like spices and even furniture.

She abruptly canceled a scheduled interview on NBC's "Today" show Friday morning, instead opting for a direct appeal via online video - one that allowed her and her staff complete control of what she said and how she said it.

"Inappropriate, hurtful language is totally, totally unacceptable," Deen said in the first 45-second video posted on YouTube. "I've made plenty of mistakes along the way but I beg you, my children, my team, my fans, my partners - I beg for your forgiveness."

Deen adopted a solemn tone as she looked straight into the camera. Still, her recorded apology featured three obvious edits - with the picture quickly fading out between splices - during a statement just five sentences long.

It was soon scrapped and replaced with a second video of Deen talking unedited for nearly two minutes as she insists: "Your color of your skin, your religion, your sexual preference does not matter to me."

""I want people to understand that my family and I are not the kind of people that the press is wanting to say we are," Deen says in the later video. "The pain has been tremendous that I have caused to myself and to others."

Deen never mentions Food Network or its decision to drop her in either of her online videos.

Deen initially planned to give her first interview on the controversy Friday to the "Today" show, which promoted her scheduled appearance as a live exclusive. Instead, host Matt Lauer ended up telling viewers that Deen's representatives pulled the plug because she was exhausted after her flight to New York. Deen said in her video she was "physically not able" to appear.

Court records show Deen sat down for a deposition May 17 in a discrimination lawsuit filed last year by a former employee who managed Uncle Bubba's Seafood and Oyster House, a Savannah restaurant owned by Deen and her brother, Bubba Hiers. The ex-employee, Lisa Jackson, says she was sexually harassed and worked in a hostile environment rife with innuendo and racial slurs.

During the deposition, Deen was peppered with questions about her racial attitudes. At one point she's asked if she thinks jokes using the N-word are "mean." Deen says jokes often target minority groups and "I can't, myself, determine what offends another person."

Deen also acknowledged she briefly considered hiring all black waiters for her brother's 2007 wedding, an idea inspired by the staff at a restaurant she had visited with her husband. She insisted she quickly dismissed the idea.

But she also insisted she and her brother have no tolerance for bigotry.

"Bubba and I, neither one of us, care what the color of your skin is" or what gender a person is, Deen said. "It's what's in your heart and in your head that matters to us."

NSA leaker charged with espionage, theft

NSA leaker charged with espionage, theft

AP Photo
This photo provided by The Guardian Newspaper in London shows Edward Snowden, who worked as a contract employee at the National Security Agency, in Hong Kong, Sunday, June 9, 2013. According to a Department of Justice official on Friday, June 21, 2013, a criminal complaint has been filed against Snowden in the NSA surveillance case.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Justice Department has charged former National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden with espionage and theft of government property in the NSA surveillance case.

Snowden, believed to be holed up in Hong Kong, has admitted providing information to the news media about two highly classified NSA surveillance programs.

A one-page criminal complaint unsealed Friday in federal court in Alexandria, Va., says Snowden engaged in unauthorized communication of national defense information and willful communication of classified communications intelligence information. Both are charges under the Espionage Act. Snowden also is charged with theft of government property. All three crimes carry a maximum 10-year prison penalty.

The federal court in the Eastern District of Virginia where the complaint was filed is headquarters for Snowden's former employer, government contractor Booz Allen Hamilton.

The complaint is dated June 14, five days after Snowden's name first surfaced as the leaker of information about the two programs in which the NSA gathered telephone and Internet records to ferret out terror plots.

The complaint could become an integral part of a U.S. government effort to have Snowden extradited from Hong Kong, a process that could turn into a prolonged legal battle. Snowden could contest extradition on grounds of political persecution. In general, the extradition agreement between the U.S. and Hong Kong excepts political offenses from the obligation to turn over a person.

It was unclear late Friday whether the U.S. had made an extradition request. Hong Kong had no immediate reaction to word of the charges against Snowden.

The Espionage Act arguably is a political offense. The Obama administration has now used the act in eight criminal cases in an unprecedented effort to stem leaks. In one of them, Army Pfc. Bradley Manning acknowledged he sent more than 700,000 battlefield reports, diplomatic cables and other materials to the anti-secrecy website WikiLeaks. His military trial is underway.

Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Fla., a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, welcomed the charges against Snowden. "I've always thought this was a treasonous act," he said in a statement. "I hope Hong Kong's government will take him into custody and extradite him to the U.S."

Michael di Pretoro, a retired 30-year veteran with the FBI who served from 1990 to 1994 as the legal liaison officer at the American consulate in Hong Kong, said "relations between U.S. and Hong Kong law enforcement personnel are historically quite good."

"In my time, I felt the degree of cooperation was outstanding to the extent that I almost felt I was in an FBI field office," said di Pretoro.

The U.S. and Hong Kong have a standing agreement on the surrender of fugitives. However, Snowden's appeal rights could drag out any extradition proceeding.
The success or failure of any extradition proceeding depends on what the suspect is charged with under U.S. law and how it corresponds to Hong Kong law under the treaty. In order for Hong Kong officials to honor the extradition request, they have to have some applicable statute under their law that corresponds with a violation of U.S. law.

In Iceland, a business executive said Friday that a private plane was on standby to transport Snowden from Hong Kong to Iceland, although Iceland's government says it has not received an asylum request from Snowden.

Business executive Olafur Vignir Sigurvinsson said he has been in contact with someone representing Snowden and has not spoken to the American himself. Private donations are being collected to pay for the flight, he said.

"There are a number of people that are interested in freedom of speech and recognize the importance of knowing who is spying on us," Sigurvinsson said. "We are people that care about privacy."

Disclosure of the criminal complaint came as President Barack Obama held his first meeting with a privacy
and civil liberties board as his intelligence chief sought ways to help Americans understand more about sweeping government surveillance efforts exposed by Snowden.

The five members of the little-known Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board met with Obama for an hour in the White House Situation Room, questioning the president on the two NSA programs that have stoked controversy.

One program collects billions of U.S. phone records. The second gathers audio, video, email, photographic and Internet search usage of foreign nationals overseas, and probably some Americans in the process, who use major providers such as Microsoft, Google, Apple, and Yahoo.

Antoinette Cook @ The News Center:     Wesley Snipes & The Expendables 3 Movie

This Friday's Expendables 2 adds Jean-Claude Van Damme and Chuck Norris to the beefcake-geriatric action franchise. Should there be a threequel, producer Avi Lerner has wants to keep expanding the lineup of retro-nostaslgic action stars in every imaginable direction. Lerner tells Total Film he'd love Clint Eastwood and Harrison Ford to participate in Expendables 3. (Specifically, he says: "We've approached Clint Eastwood" and "We're talking to Harrison Ford.") Lerner also says that they'd love to cast Wesley Snipes "when he comes back from prison," and outright promises that "we've got Nicolas Cage."

Now, keep in mind that Expendables 2 hasn't even opened yet, so it's probably fair to classify this as "magical thinking." But hey, the entire Expendables franchise is based on magical thinking.

Sure, Eastwood is entirely too dignified for this franchise, and Ford would be a weird fit. But Wesley Snipes hasn't had a high-profile role since his Blade golden era — and he's currently scheduled to be released from prison next July, which would be just in time to star in a (purely theoretical) 2014 Expendables sequel.

And then there's Nicolas Cage, an actor who's been in the Expendables sniper scope for a long time now — at one point, Stallone was claiming that Cage would appear in Expendables 2. That didn't happen, possibly because Cage was busy filming The Frozen Ground or Ghost Rider 2 or Seeking Justice or a couple of other movies which were conceived and filmed and released in Bulgaria in the time it took me to write this sentence.

But given that Expendables movies are apparently filmed according to the Robert Rodriguez summer camp method — "Hey, are you free next Tuesday? Wanna film a couple scenes so we can put your face on the poster?" — it's hard to imagine that Cage couldn't find time in his busy schedule to take a supporting role. I mean, all he has to do is put on a wig — let's say red dreadlocks — and then deliver a crazy improvised speech, at the conclusion of which he fires a rocket launcher into the air. (Total Film says that Lerner wants Cage to play a character whose name sounds like "Hunter Grimlenson.")

There's a much bigger question here, though: What does Steven Seagal gotta do to get cast in these movies? It makes you wonder if, back in the early '90s, Seagal did something that his fellow action movie heroes can never forgive him for. Like, maybe he refused to eat at Planet Hollywood. Or even worse, he ate at Planet Hollywood, but he loudly declared, "Frankly, I prefer the burgers at the Hard Rock." Scandal! Antoinette Cook @ The News Center : MB Take Over  J-14  Magazine

Mindless Behavior released their debut album #1 Girl on September 20, but before that, they stopped by the J-14 office to hang out and catch up. Princeton, Prodigy, Ray Ray, and Roc Royal confidently walked into the studio and gave us all big hugs before our chat. Here's a snippet of our conversation. To see more from our exclusive interview, make sure to get J-14's December issue, on stands November 7!
J-14: You guys are on the Scream tour. Tell us a little bit about it.
Princeton:
We're headlining the Scream tour with a bunch of really talented artists like Diggy Simmons. We're so excited and we just really like being on tour. My favorite part about touring is 100% the fans. Our fans are always there for us.

J-14: Your song "My Girl" is so catchy! What about it is most meaningful for you?
Ray Ray:
"My Girl" is a song that we really related to because we text all the time, which is what we say in the song. We're always just on our phones texting.

J-14: How would each of you describe your personalities?

Prodigy: I'm more of the quiet and laidback one.
Princeton: I'm the smart one. I love studying, inside of school and out. I'm a big kid. I like reading J-14 and watching Disney Channel.
Ray Ray: I'm more like the pretty boy of the group.
Roc Royal: I'm tough. I like to give a lot of energy.
J-14: Have you ever had an embarrassing moment in school?
Ray Ray:
One time when I was in school, the teacher called on me to answer a question in front of the class and I didn't know what she was talking about because I wasn't paying attention. So when I got up there, I was like, "Um... um..." and the whole class laughed.
Prodigy: I've done that before in class. I've raised my hand for a question she didn't ask.
J-14: What do you when you're not working?
Ray Ray:
I like to go outside and play. Sometimes we play tag. I like to read the Twilight books -- I'm a big Twilight fan.
Roc Royal: I like to go outside and do back flips.
Princeton: I like reading books and listening to my iPod and shopping and cooking and watching Disney Channel in my free time.

Obama Speech tonight don't miss it America !!!

Remember American's please do your part in this election if your not a part of the solution than your a part of the problem.

President Obama addresses supporters who had tickets but won't be able to attend Democratic convention speech

Before his televised address at the Democratic National Convention on Thursday. President Obama spoke on a conference call to supporters whose tickets for the speech were voided because of a change to a smaller, indoor venue.
Obama was scheduled to speak at Bank of America Stadium, an outdoor football field with almost 74,000 seats, but convention organizers announced on Wednesday that the possibility of thunderstorms would force a move to the Time Warner Cable Arena, a basketball and hockey venue that seats only 20,000.

Obama called the switch "disappointing" and described some members of his staff as "crestfallen" but urged his backers to remain upbeat.

"We can't let a little thunder and lightning get us down," Obama said. "We're going to have to roll with it."
Some of the would-be attendees are people who earned tickets by volunteering on the Obama campaign in North Carolina for at least nine hours. Others flew to Charlotte from other parts of the country at their own expense, hoping to see the president in person. Mama said knock you out': LL Cool J broke burglary suspect's nose, jaw, ribs

Los Angeles (CNN) -- A man charged with breaking into LL Cool J's home Wednesday morning faces a long prison sentence if convicted because of his previous convictions, the prosecutor's spokeswoman said Thursday.
Jonathan Kirby, 56, suffered a broken nose, jaw and ribs when he encountered the muscular rapper-actor inside his Sherman Oaks, California, home, according to Los Angeles County District Attorney spokeswoman Sandi Gibbons.
Prosecutors charged Kirby with first degree burglary as a "third striker," which means he could face 38 years to life in prison if convicted, Gibbons said. They are asking that bail for Kirby be set at $1.1 million.

Kirby was previously convicted of voluntary manslaughter in Dallas, Texas, in 1988. He also has auto theft, first degree burglary and a petty theft conviction in Los Angeles on his record, Gibbons said.
Arraignment for the suspect is not yet set, because he is still hospitalized for treatment of injuries inflicted by LL Cool J when he "physically detained" him, she said.

The family was sleeping when their home security alarm sounded at 1 a.m., sending LL Cool J into action, according to a Los Angeles Police statement.

After catching the man, he held him until police arrived, police said.
LL Cool J, whose real name is James Todd Smith, plays Special Agent and former Navy SEAL Sam Hanna on "NCIS: Los Angeles," a CBS crime series.

Antoinette Cook @ The News Center:  Rihanna still in love with Chris Brown!!!!!

Rihanna did not mince words talking to Oprah about Chris Brown ... saying very simply, "I still love him."

As part of tonight's episode of "Oprah's Next Chapter," O asked RiRi where her relationship with Chris stands today, nearly three years after his brutal attack on her.

Rihanna explained, "We're very, very close friends. We built a trust again and that's it. We love each other and we probably always will."

RiRi says the two are just friends now and they are in no way back together ... though she did admit, "I think he was the love of my life." Remeber you guys love is not suppose to hurt think about that !!

Box office report: 'Expendables 2' shoots to the top with $28.8 million, but newcomers don't 'Sparkle'

Four weeks after the shootings in Aurora, Colo., the box office remains in a relative slump — despite performing over 20 percent better that the same weekends in 2011 and 2010.
According to industry consulting firm Screen Engine, 17 percent of moviegoers are still reluctant to head to the theater following the shooting. While that number has dropped from the 21 percent who claimed they were reluctant one week after the shooting, it's still telling — and discouraging — for Hollywood. Fortunately, moviegoers have a lot of options to choose from. When the top seven movies at the box office all earn over $10 million, it's clear that the box office isn't in totally dire straits, but it doesn't seem to be firing on all cylinders.
Sylvester Stallone and his weathered crew of grizzly action stars (and fresh-faced Liam Hemsworth) pushed their explosive sequel The Expendables 2 to a $28.8 million debut, 17 percent lower than the $34.8 million bow of 2010′s original Expendables. The number one debut marks the first time pop culture icon Chuck Norris has ever topped the box office.

There really is nothing he can't do.
Lionsgate spent $35 million to acquire the film, which was made by Nu Image for a reported $90 million. Audiences, which were 63 percent male and 65 percent above the age of 25 (both older and more male despite the addition of Hemsworth), issued the film a healthy "A-" CinemaScore grade. The explosive action entry also earned markedly better reviews than its predecessor, which could spur positive word-of-mouth, which Expendables 2 will need in order to match the original's $103.1 million domestic finish and for Stallone to justify another sequel.
The Bourne Legacy held second place after dropping 55 percent to $17 million. Universal's $125 million sequel, which replaced star Matt Damon with The Avengers' Jeremy Renner, has now earned $69.6 million after ten days. By comparison, The Bourne Ultimatum earned $69.3 million during its opening weekend in 2007.
Focus Features' ParaNorman kicked off its run in third place with $14 million — a touch behind the $16.8 million that Coraline, which was also made by Laika Entertainment, earned in its debut. The 3-D flick, about a boy who can communicate with the dead, launched very wide in 3,429 theaters, and it achieved a rather lackluster $4,085 venue average — the least of any of the newcomers, including The Odd Life of Timothy Green, which found about $4,199 at each of its 2,598 theaters. Audiences gave ParaNorman a "B+" CinemaScore grade, which, again, was the lowest of any of the new releases, despite the fact that it earned the strongest critical reviews by far.
ParaNorman will need some incredible holds in order to match Coraline's $75.3 million finish, but that film benefited from being part of the 3-D craze that peaked in 2009. ParaNorman is entering a very different marketplace where 3-D affection has long since passed.
In fourth, Will Ferrell and Zack Galifinakis' comedy The Campaign dipped 50 percent to $13.4 million, which lifted the R-rated hit's total to $51.7 million. While The Campaign will likely miss the $100 million mark, it cost Warner Bros. only $30 million to make, and it should prove a profitable venture for the studio.

The allure of Whitney Houston's final performance didn't drive many crowds to Sparkle, which began in fifth place with $12 million. As a point of comparison, the concert doc Michael Jackson: This Is It – which arrived four months after Michael Jackson's death — started off hotter than Sparkle, earning $23.2 million in its opening weekend in October 2009 on the way to a $72.1 million finish. Sparkle didn't have 3-D ticket prices working on its side, but still, its less-than-stellar box office is somewhat surprising given Houston's status as pop royalty.

Fortunately, the ScreenGems release cost only $14 million, and that low cost will be its saving grace. Thanks to a narrow theater count of 2,244, Sparkle notched a sturdy, if uninspiring, $5,348 per theater average, and if it can garner strong word-of-mouth — which seems likely given its "A" CinemaScore grade — it could find legs in the weeks to come.
Sparkle's leading lady Jordin Sparks, who won Season 6 of American Idol, isn't the first Idol champ to show up at the box office, though she did garner the strongest opening weekend results. Season 4 winner Carrie Underwood had a supporting role in 2011′s Soul Surfer, which opened to $10.6 million on the way to a $43.9 million finish. Season 1 winner Kelly Clarkson led the famously awful musical From Justin To Kelly, which earned $4.9 million total in 2003. Now, if only Sparks could match their album sales.

  1. The Expendables 2 – $28.8 million
   2.  Sparkle – $12.0 million
